Lizette Alvarez

Bilingual Speech-Language Pathologist

Lizette Alvarez, M.S., CCC-SLP is a board-certified bilingual (English/Spanish) pediatric speech language pathologist who is licensed to practice in DC and Maryland. Lizette graduated from San Diego State University with her BA in Psychology and Utah State University with a BS in Communicative Disorders and Deaf Education. She holds a MS in Speech Language Pathology from the University of the District of Columbia. She has worked in family homes with the early intervention population, in schools with school-age children, and in private clinics with a diverse clientele.

During her undergraduate studies, Lizette became an instructor for Reading S.T.A.R.S (Sensory Training Approach to Reading and Spelling) program for three years, where she worked with school age children to become successful in emergent and conventional literacy skills. The program sparked her passion and advocacy for reading and writing development. She enjoys incorporating books in her therapy sessions to help practice an array of speech and language concepts.

Lizette had the opportunity to work with children with autism and their families, volunteering abroad as an instructor for Asociación Guatemalteca por el Autismo/ Association for Autism in Guatemala. During her time there, she provided support for autistic children and implemented individualized plans that included: communication, sensory needs, self-advocacy, and overall independence.

Lizette is dedicated to working with families from culturally diverse backgrounds. She merged her love for travel and collaboration with colleagues to support Belizean children’s communications skills and learning disabilities during a training and cultural immersion trip. Lizette completed the weeklong workshops and meetings where she received a certificate in Cultural and Linguistic Diversity.

When she is not in the clinic, Lizette loves to travel with her husband to unknown cities and discover small towns around the world. She loves staying active like going hiking and camping as well as, playing different sports like softball, golf, and volleyball. Book recommendations are always welcome.
