Gabriela Teran, M.A., CF-SLP is a bilingual (English/Spanish) speech-language pathologist with extensive experience serving pediatric and adult populations in a variety of settings including schools, private clinics, and hospitals. Gabriela graduated from Boston University with a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Speech Language and Hearing Sciences in 2020, and she received a Master of Arts (MA) in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of Maryland in 2024. She has completed specialized training in diagnosing and treating multicultural populations through UMD’s Cultural and Linguistic Diversity Emphasis Program and the Bilingual Certification Program. She grew up in Nicaragua, is a native speaker of Spanish and English, and is extremely passionate about providing culturally responsive care to bilingual individuals with varying communication disorders.

In between her undergraduate and graduate studies, Gabriela worked as a Speech Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) where she gained extensive experience working with students with dyslexia, articulation and phonological disorders, fluency disorders, and receptive/expressive language impairments. During her time as an SLPA, she collaborated to create support groups and developed a Spanish tutoring program for children with dyslexia. Within her graduate degree, she had the opportunity to complete her clinical outplacements at The River School and the DC VA Medical Hospital where she gained experience working with children with cochlear implants and adults with a variety of neurological disorders, respectively. Through these experiences, she has learned the importance of inter-professional collaboration and advocacy to provide patient-centered holistic care.

Gabriela’s main professional goals are to provide equitable and individualized bilingual services to members of the community and increase access to culturally and linguistically competent services. She is currently completing her clinical fellowship (CF) at Voz Speech Therapy and is thrilled to join the Voz family and continue her work with bilingual pediatric populations.

I can't say enough good things about Voz Speech Therapy. My son went from struggling to communicate with us to a complete chatterbox and we couldn't be happier! He was barely speaking one or two words and now is using complete sentences, singing along to things we listen to on the radio and asking more questions than we can answer. We have Dr. Jaramillo and Voz Speech Therapy to thank for this. She comes to our daycare and works with him independently and in the classroom setting which has been great for him to have ST in a space he is familiar with already. Dr. Ana is an amazing speech therapist that knows her stuff! Prior to visiting her, our 20 month old daughter had a slight delay in her speech. Dr. Ana not only used age appropriate engaging activities to help our daughter build up her speech, she also provided numerous resources and tips for us to reinforce at home with our daughter. Prior to seeing Jessica, my 7-year old was terrified of reading and would use every avoidance tactic in his little tool belt to avoid it. And so began my tireless efforts to seek DC/VA/MA for a dyslexia specialist. I can say, without reservation, that we absolutely won the lottery when we found Jessica Nolasco.In the past, we have used fun instructors who would play lots of games but provided very little value in terms of substantive improvements. But Jessica has an incredible gift of knowing just the right amount to push and challenge him. For parents, she also offers a lot of feedback about the sessions, exercises to practice at home, tips on which books to read, and games to play. She is also incredibly receptive to my questions and allows me to have input based on issues that I've seen crop up with our other support tutors. This has allowed me to give my kid the best wrap-around service that coordinates with his other services.She has been working with my 7-year-old and even within the first short few weeks, we have seen dramatic changes. To truly understand how magical she is....you must understand that we gave her the monumental task of teaching him after a long day of school - when he is completely depleted. But he absolutely loves her. She has managed to gamify reading exercises in an effective way. As most 7-year-olds, he does not suffer fools gladly. If someone came in with a fake singsong-y way, he would turn them away. Thankfully, they have a wonderful and genuine connection. Jessica miraculously managed to break through and get him excited about reading. He actually runs to see her. I repeat, runs to see her.Even his newly assigned school speech therapist said, "I can tell immediately, someone has been working with him". Take it from a picky mom and kid, she is the best. What got in the door was her credentials but what has kept us is her incredible ability to connect and work with my son. We love her!On the business side:Porche, at the front desk, is incredibly lovely! She is there late in the evenings when we have our sessions. She's super kind and goes out of her way to ensure that our sessions are seamless.She processes all of our insurance claims and we have never had any issues. While this is often invisible work -- it is only invisible because she is doing such an amazing job. This allows me to focus on my child's progress rather than muck around with the nasty work of insurance claims.

My daughter was so lucky to find Voz. Everyone here has been wonderful. Ana-Maria met with us first and diagnosed my daughter with a condition that is usually overlooked. For therapy, we worked with Jessica. I cannot say enough wonderful things about her.
